The Shoe Effect in Sri Lanka 2023

The Shoe Effect in Sri Lanka 2023

Hey you!

As we are typing this, we are packing our final stuff because tomorrow is the day - we are finally heading out to Sri Lanka to conduct the largest ever study on shoes effect on feet. We thought we'd give a bit more context below in this collaborative study between Wyde Footwear and My Foot Function.

At Wyde Footwear, our mission is driven by a deep commitment to improving the lives of individuals through innovative, foot-friendly solutions. The journey to redefine footwear and eradicate ill-fitted shoes from people's lives is an ongoing one, and it's rooted in a powerful vision: to empower individuals with the gift of foot comfort and liberation from shoe pain.

The Study that Inspired Us

Our journey is inspired by the groundbreaking research conducted by the Hoffman study on feet. This research has served as a major source of inspiration for us and many other brands. The study explored the potential impact of primitive reflexes on foot biomechanics, offering new perspectives on how these reflexes might influence various foot-related issues.

Armed with this newfound knowledge, we are eager to embark on our own study, this time with ultra modern equipment and top notch photography, building upon the insights from the Hoffman research and contributing to a deeper understanding of foot health.

A Collaborative Study for a Greater Cause

In collaboration with My Foot Function, Wyde Footwear is embarking on a pioneering study that aims to compare foot morphology and foot pain in barefoot versus shoe-wearing individuals in Sri Lanka. This research initiative seeks to understand how different types of footwear, including shoes, sandals, and barefoot conditions, impact foot structure and potential foot problems.

The Goals of Our Study

Our research team, led by Lennart Dimberg, MD, PhD, from Gothenburg University, Sweden, and Professor Stefan Grau from the Sports Science Institute at Gothenburg University, is gearing up for an intensive one-month research expedition in Sri Lanka, commencing in November 2023. Equipped with camera and research equipment, we'll travel through major cities and rural areas, covering a diverse demographic of 1000+ participants aged 18 to 65.

Our primary goals are to:

  1. Gain comprehensive insights into the impact of different types of footwear on foot structure within the varied communities of Sri Lanka.
  2. Explore the relationship between foot morphology and various activities, such as sitting comfortably in a deep squat and maintaining single-leg balance.
  3. Examine the pressure distribution and foot pathologies associated with various footwear choices.
  4. Develop informed recommendations for healthy foot care and shoe selection.

Join Us in Shaping the Future of Foot Health

Our vision is to empower individuals to experience foot comfort, liberation from shoe pain, and the freedom to move with ease. Through the research conducted across Sri Lanka's diverse communities, we aim to create a future where every step embodies freedom, comfort, and boundless mobility.

As we embark on this journey, we invite you to join us in shaping a world where foot pain is but a distant memory. Together, we'll make strides towards a future where foot health is prioritized, and people have the opportunity to live their lives with comfort and confidence.
