How Does It Work?

SCIENCE

What Makes Wyde Footwear Unique?

WIDE TOE BOX
A truly wide toe box allowing your toes to splay as nature intended and your feet can achieve the natural foot shaped position with an intact Meyers line for the big toe. This promotes toe alignment, strength, and function.
FULLY FLEXIBLE
A fully flexible sole allows for a fully flexible foot. It promotes big toe flexibility & function to maximize your effectiveness during gait & movement. This allows for the windlass-mechanism to happen and the foot can naturally switch between being loose and a rigid lever at the correct time during walking gait.
ZERO DROP & NO TOE SPRING
Allows for a natural even distribution of your body weight over the whole foot and promotes innate walking & movement biomechanics. Promotes full range of motion & strength in your heel cord and calf muscles. Also, to fully engage your intrinsic foot muscles during walking and reinforce your longitudinal foot arch naturally. Wyde Footwear has zero Toe Spring.
UNIQUE OUTSOLE THICKNESS (13mm)
The thickness of the sole is thick enough to protect your feet when walking on rough surfaces, small stones or hard unnatural surfaces like asphalt. At the same time it is thin enough to enable your innate walking & running biomechanics. It is also thin enough for optimal foot muscle activation to happen. A unique blend for a functional foot in a modern society.

What Does This Lead To?

Toe Strength

Develops toe alignment and strength for better foot health.

Foot Support

Supports the foot's biomechanics and reduces foot pathologies.

Mobility and Flexibility

Enhances foot mobility and flexibility for better functionality.

Foot Valve Strength

Strengthens the foot valve, improving stability.

Achilles Health

Promotes Achilles tendon and calf muscle length and strength.

Improved Biomechanics

Enhances natural foot biomechanics, aiding toe-off as a lever.

Pathology Prevention

Long-term risk reduction for hallux valgus and hammertoes.

Shock Absorption

Enables natural shock absorption within the feet.

Ankle Strength

Strengthens ankles, reducing the risk of sprains over time.

Improved Gait

Enhances natural gait by strengthening and supporting foot mechanics.

What About A Conventional Shoe?

SCIENCE

Negative Aspects Of Conventional Shoes

NARROW TOE BOX
Creates crowded, misaligned, and weak toes. Increases the risk of bunions and presses your big toe into a hallux valgus position. The toes lose their ability to be rigid levers during toe-off.
STIFF SOLE
This hinders the big toe joint mobility and there will be minimal movement throughout the joints in your feet.
VERY THICK SOLE
The thickness of the sole hinders natural movement biomechanics while walking & running. It decreases proprioceptive information to your brain from your feet.
ARCH SUPPORT (AGAINST OVERPRONATION)
A thick & stiff midsole will ensure that your arch doesn't collapse when you walk. The problem is that it also hinders the natural shock absorption movement that is supposed to happen in a functional foot. There is supposed to be a whole foot pronation and foot elongation. So even if it feels supported, weight distribution mechanics are hindered and there will be consequences in other joints throughout the kinetic chain.
TOE SPRING
This locks your big toe in dorsiflexion, which will tense up your foot arch via the windlass mechanism, increasing the risk of pain. The toe-spring assists the foot in a way that strong toes are not needed. This results in you developing weak toes and foot muscle atrophy over time.
HIGH HEEL TO TOE DROP
This will put pressure on the front part of your foot, together with a narrow toe box and a toe spring this will increase the risk of collapsing the anterior transverse foot arch. A high heel to toe drop doesn't demand heel cord flexibility and your body will adapt to having a short heel cord, restricting your ankle mobility over time.

What Does This Lead To?

Deformed Feet

Weak feet, deformities, and hallux valgus position risks.

Muscular Atrophy

Muscles supporting foot valve weaken due to atrophy.

Weak Toe Alignment

Misaligned and weak toes causing structural issues.

Frontal Pressure

Unnatural plantar pressure, front of the foot affected.

Muscle Weakening

Use it or lose it: Intrinsic foot muscles weaken over time.

Bunions and Calluses

Increased risk of bunions and painful calluses formation.

Toe Crowding

Crowded toes lead to overlapping toes and various toe deformities.

Collapsed Foot Valve

Foot valve may collapse, impacting foot support.

Achilles Tendon Issues

Shortened Achilles tendon, potential flexibility problems.

Intrinsic Muscle Weakening

Gradual weakening of vital intrinsic foot muscles.
