Which brand is wider?

Wyde, based on each brand's own size guide. Wyde lists an insole width for every size, from 10.0 cm in EU 36 to 12.2 cm in EU 47, rising by 0.2 cm per size. In EU 42 that is 11.2 cm. Ohne Project has three adult width charts. It lists 9.9 cm in EU 42 for the 060, 070, 080, 090 and Strata, 10.3 cm for the Retro Run, and 10.5 cm for the 080 and 089 Wide, which go up to EU 46.

In EU 42 that makes Wyde's listed insole 1.3 cm wider than Ohne Project's 060, 070, 080, 090 and Strata, 0.9 cm wider than the Retro Run, and 0.7 cm wider than the 080 and 089 Wide. Wyde's size guide has a single chart, and the FAQ on its product pages says all Wyde shoes have a wide, foot-shaped toe box as standard. The two brands may measure slightly differently, so treat the figures as each brand's own published numbers and try the shoes on at home.

How thick are the soles?

Ohne Project lists a 5 mm base on its 080, with a light TR sole, and says its barefoot soles are less than 5 mm thick. The Retro Run V2 has a 7 mm sole, and the Strata has a 6 mm Vibram sole and comes with two removable insoles of 5 mm and 3 mm.

Wyde describes its shoes as sharing the core principles of barefoot footwear (a wide toe box, zero drop, no toe spring and a flexible sole) with more cushioning than ultra-minimalist barefoot shoes, for everyday wear on concrete and pavement. The Nova lists a stack height of 10 mm plus the insole, the Maia sandals and Nilo slip-on 14.6 mm with a cork midsole, and the Soma 22 mm with an EVA midsole.

If you want to feel the ground, Ohne Project's 5 mm sole is built for that. If you spend long days on hard city surfaces and want more under your feet, Wyde's thicker soles are the closer match.

What are the shoes made of?

Ohne Project says all its sneakers are 100% vegan. Its uppers use a vegan leather made from corn-based materials and organic cotton, and some models use microfibre. The Retro Run uses microfibre suede and 3D mesh, with a lining and laces of 100% recycled polyester. Ohne Project says its soles contain about 30% recycled rubber.

Most Wyde leather models use LWG certified leather, nubuck or suede. The Leather Working Group audits tanneries on how they manage their environmental impact. On the Nova the leather depends on the colourway: most are LWG Gold, and Nova White is LWG Silver. The Maia, Maia Strap and Nilo use LWG Gold certified leather or suede from Portugal. The Soma has an air mesh and suede upper. Wyde does not make vegan shoes.

Where are the shoes made?

Ohne Project's sneaker pages say they are made in Elche, Spain, and the Strata is handcrafted in Portugal. Wyde's Nova, Maia, Maia Strap, Nilo, Chelsea and Norra are handmade in Portugal, and the Soma is made by a partner in China. Each brand states the origin on the product page, so check the specific model.

How does sizing compare?

Both brands list EU sizes 36 to 47 (Ohne Project's Wide fit to 46). Wyde sells full EU sizes only. Ohne Project asks you to add 0.8 to 1.2 cm to your foot length when choosing a size, and notes that its shoes may feel slightly big at first.

At Wyde, you choose your size by foot length only and do not need to size up for width. If you are between sizes, Wyde recommends sizing up. For the Maia sandals, Wyde recommends one size down from your Wyde sneaker size.

How do prices and returns compare?

As of October 2026, Ohne Project lists its 070, 080 and 080 Wide sneakers at a regular price of €159, the 090 at €165 and the Retro Run V2 at €169. As of October 2026, Wyde lists the Soma at 1,875 kr (€179 in its EU store), the Nova at 2,375 kr (€215), the Maia at 1,425 kr (€130) and the Nilo at 1,675 kr (€155).

Return terms differ more. Ohne Project gives 14 days from receiving the order to request a return, from the EU, the US and the UK. A return has a fee, for example €19 to Sweden. Exchanges are available within the EU. Wyde gives 30 days from delivery to return unworn items, with free size exchanges in the EU and the US. For refunds, Wyde deducts €10 in the EU and 100 SEK in Sweden.

Which should you choose?

  • Want the widest listed insole: Wyde, at 11.2 cm in EU 42.
  • Want a thin, flexible barefoot sole: Ohne Project's 080 or 070.
  • Want fully vegan materials: Ohne Project.
  • Want a leather sneaker handmade in Portugal: Wyde Nova.
  • Want more cushioning for pavement: Wyde Soma or Nova.
  • Want more time to test the fit at home: Wyde's 30-day return window.

Whichever you choose, measure both feet standing and size for the longer foot. If you are used to narrow shoes with a raised heel, ease in gradually.
