Nova is the lace-up sneaker from Wyde Footwear. Every Nova has the same foot-shaped design: a wide toe box, zero drop and no toe spring. What changes between colourways is the upper, and in one case the lining and the price. What is the Wyde Nova?
Nova is a unisex leather sneaker with cotton laces and a rubber outsole, handmade in Portugal. Wyde says it was developed with foot function specialists, and sums it up as "All-day comfort meets bold, everyday exploration."
Wyde's leather models are made in three family-run factories in Portugal. Melker Svärd is co-founder and CEO of Wyde, and Rasmus Svärd is co-founder and head of physiotherapy.
Nova is made for everyday wear on concrete and pavement. It has more cushioning than ultra-minimalist barefoot shoes, and Wyde places its shoes between conventional shoes and pure barefoot shoes.
One version is built for formal wear. Wyde describes Nova Patent Black as "a black dress shoe built on our Nova sole", in glossy black patent, made for weddings, formal occasions and the office. Wyde has also shown the Nova collection on a runway at Milan Fashion Week, with Flying Solo.

How is Nova shaped?
Nova has a wide, foot-shaped toe box, zero drop, no toe spring and a sole that bends at the toes. These four points are the same on every Wyde model.
What does the wide toe box do?
It gives the toes room to spread. The toe box follows the natural shape of the foot, and it is wide as standard on every colourway.
Because the width is built in, you choose your Nova size by foot length only. Wyde says you do not need to size up for width.
What do zero drop and no toe spring mean?
Zero drop means the heel and toe are at the same height, like standing barefoot. There is no raised heel pushing your weight forward.
A toe spring is the upward curve of the sole at the front of a shoe, which holds the toes raised above the ground. Nova has no toe spring, so the toes are not held up.
How thick is the Nova sole?
The stack height is 10 mm plus the insole. Wyde notes that the shoe looks as if it has a higher stack height, and says this is purely a visual effect.
The outsole is rubber. Wyde describes its soles as "really bendy", so the foot can move freely and the shoe bends where the toes bend.
Does Nova have arch support?
No. Nova, like every Wyde model, has no traditional built-in arch support, and the sole is flat.
The insoles are removable, so you can use your own orthotics instead. Wyde says most customers find their orthotics fit well because the toe box is deep.

How do the Nova colourways differ?
They differ in the upper material, and Nova Patent Black also differs in lining and price. The shape, the 10 mm stack height, the rubber outsole and the cotton laces are the same on all 11.
Ten colourways have a Coolmax lining. Nova Patent Black has a leather lining. All 11 come in EU sizes 36 to 47 and are handmade in Portugal.

Which colourways combine nubuck and aviator leather?
Four do: Nova White/Gum, Nova Beige/Blue, Nova Beige/Peach and Nova Beige/Green. Their upper combines LWG Gold certified nubuck leather with LWG Approved aviator leather.
Wyde describes aviator leather as a rugged leather that gains character with wear. All four have a Coolmax lining and cost the same as standard Nova.
What makes Nova White different?
Nova White is the only Nova with an LWG Silver rating. Its upper is LWG Silver certified aniline leather, and the lining is Coolmax.
What are Nova Dual Black and Nova Brown Suede made of?
Nova Dual Black combines LWG Gold certified nubuck with LWG Gold certified grain leather. Nova Brown Suede has an upper of LWG Gold certified Italian suede leather.
Both have a Coolmax lining and cost the same as standard Nova.
What is Nova Fly?
Nova Fly is the version with a mixed upper of leather and textile. Its upper combines LWG Gold certified nubuck leather with DRONEE textile, and the lining is Coolmax.
It comes in three colourways: White/Gray, White/Sand and Gray/Green. As of October 2026, each costs 2,375 kr on wydefootwear.com and €215 in the EU store, the same as standard Nova.
How is Nova Patent Black different?
Nova Patent Black is the dress version of Nova. The upper is patent leather, the lining is leather rather than Coolmax, and it costs more than the other colourways.
It has the same sole, the same 10 mm stack height and the same EU 36 to 47 size range as the other colourways. Wyde describes it as "Elegant outside. Anatomical inside."
What do LWG Gold, Silver and Approved mean?
They are ratings from the Leather Working Group (LWG), which audits leather makers on their environmental performance. A rating describes the tannery that made the leather, not the shoe itself.
The LWG audit assesses how a tannery measures, controls and reports the impact of its manufacturing. It has 17 sections, including water and energy use, environmental management, chemical management, and waste management and effluent treatment.
To be rated Gold, a tannery must score at least 85% in every scored section. Silver needs at least 75% in every section. A tannery with mixed results is certified at the level of its lowest section.
Approved is a different kind of rating. LWG gives it to leather traders when they are certified against the LWG standard. Medal ratings such as Gold and Silver go to leather manufacturers and commissioning manufacturers. For leather manufacturing facilities, LWG certification is valid for 24 months.
Wyde also lists what its Portugal-made shoes do not contain. According to its FAQ, they are free from PFCs, AZO colours and heavy metals, and comply with EU regulations such as REACH and CADS norms.
How much does Nova cost?
As of October 2026, Nova costs 2,375 kr on wydefootwear.com and €215 in the EU store. That price applies to 10 of the 11 colourways, including all three Nova Fly versions.
Nova Patent Black costs 2,500 kr on wydefootwear.com and €225 in the EU store.

How do you choose your Nova size?
Choose by foot length. Nova comes in unisex, full EU sizes 36 to 47, with no half sizes. If you are between sizes or normally wear a half size, size up.
Wyde says its digital sizing tool works for most customers. You open it from the Size Guide link above the size selector on each product page. If you would rather measure by hand, follow these steps.
1 Stand up straight
Stand upright with your full weight on the foot you are measuring. Measure both feet.
2 Measure heel to toe
Measure from the back of your heel to the tip of your longest toe, in a straight line, in centimetres.
3 Find your size in the chart
Compare your foot length with the foot length range in the chart below, and choose the size where your measurement fits.
4 Use your longer foot
If one foot is longer than the other, choose the size that fits the longer foot.
5 Size up if you are in between
If you fall between two sizes, choose the larger one. Do not size up for width, because the wide toe box is standard.

The foot length and insole width come from Wyde's size guide, and the UK and US sizes from the Nova product pages. The insole width shows how wide each size is. In EU 42, for example, the insole is 11.2 cm wide.
How should Nova feel the first time you try it?
It may feel more spacious than you expect. Wyde's size guide says its shoes follow the natural shape of the foot and may feel roomier at first, and that this is intentional.
Try Nova indoors on a clean floor first. A few minutes of walking around indoors is fine, and the shoes can still be returned if they come back unused.

Can you change the insole in Nova?
Yes. Nova has a removable insole, and Wyde sells two insoles in EU sizes 36 to 47.
The Replacement Insole is 2 mm thick. Wyde notes that insoles wear before shoes do, and that a fresh insole resets the fit. The Comfort Insole is 6 mm thick. Wyde describes it as a thicker version of its standard insole, for people who want more cushioning underfoot without giving up the wide toe box or the flat profile.
As of October 2026, each insole costs 130 kr on wydefootwear.com and €12 in the EU store. Some customers use their own orthotics during a transition period and later switch back to the standard insole.
How do you clean and look after Nova?
Wipe Nova with a soft, dry cloth. For tougher stains, use a damp cloth with a mild soap solution.
1 Wipe off dirt
Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt from the upper.
2 Treat tougher stains
Dampen a cloth with a mild soap solution and use it on the stain.
3 Store out of the sun
Keep your shoes away from direct sunlight when you are not wearing them.
4 Rotate your pairs
Rotate Nova with other pairs, which Wyde recommends to extend their lifespan.
Wyde recommends a cleaning kit from ShoeShame, a company that specialises in sneaker cleaning kits. Wyde sells it as the Cleaning Kit. It contains a cleaning solution, a double-sided brush and a bottom designed as a water tray. As of October 2026 it costs 230 kr on wydefootwear.com and €19 in the EU store.
What if your Nova does not fit?
You can exchange or return it. You have 30 days from the day you receive your order to register a return or an exchange in Wyde's return portal, and this applies to all markets.
Size exchanges are free in Sweden, the EU and the USA. In Norway, Switzerland, the UK and Canada, there is no direct exchange: you place a new order in the size you want and register the original pair as a return.
The shoes must come back unused, in their original condition and in the original box. For a refund, Wyde deducts a fee in some markets: 100 SEK in Sweden and €10 in the EU, which covers the prepaid label and warehouse handling.
